There is No One Compares With You

today I saw this movie called "In My Life: The John Lennon Story".It was basically a movie that chronicles John Lennon's early life until right before the pinnacle of his success with The Beatles. From the looks of it, it seemed to be one of those "made-for-tv" type movies that ultimately end up in heavy rotation of the Lifetime network. And it was exactly that.I used to wonder why there weren't any major motion pictures done about The Beatles, but now I get it. There's not an actor alive that could do it better or to the same degree as John or any of the other Beatles did. I think that's what bugged me the most about this movie. The actor who played John just acted and sounded like a cheap impersonation. Not only that, but this movie portrayed John as some insensitive jerk. Now I've done lots of research on Lennon to know that yes...he had his faults like we all do,but it wasn't like he didn't have an ounce of compassion in him.I also feel like the movie failed to properly introduce Cynthia.I know that as a TV movie they're limited for time, but they could have at least given her a couple more scenes that show the development of their relationship instead of only having her in three major scenes: when they meet, when John proposes after she tells him she's pregnant, and when Julian is born.I mean, this movie WAS supposed to be about John's early life, right? And was she not instrumental in his later years of adolescence? The movie also leaves you at at weird place. It's right before The Beatles come to America for the first time to appear on the Ed Sullivan show and as a result you're left with the "that was it?"impression. To the production's defense,it would have been an incredibly long movie if EVERYTHING in John's life was included, but then again...they knew what they were taking on when they started the project. So you can either handle it well and do it justice, or like this movie, you can do the best with what you have after realizing you've bit off more than you can chew.Unfortunately, their best wasn't good enough.
