This was the BEST surprise today. I finally got my questions answered from May Pang. Another goal achieved.wow I'd say I'm on a roll so far. Now if only Paul McCartney can be crossed off my list. I still have faith. We shall see.Anywho here are both questions and answers. I'm very happy with them. Thank You May Pang! You rock girl!!
1.) How did you get to work for John Lennon? How many years did you know him?
I went for my first job interview at a bicycle company, which was located at 1700 Broadway in Manhattan. While I was being told "we'll call you," a friend who was waiting for me in the lobby noticed that Beatles and Stones manager Allen Klein's ABKCO office was in the same building. She told me and immediately decided to go for my second job interview ever... and to my great surprise, got the job.
Being a big music fan, this was a dream job. After spending a few months there doing the typical 9-to-5, John & Yoko appeared one day, and I was assigned to make them feel comfortable. Every time they came to New York after that, I acted as their personal assistant. When they decided to move to New York permanently, I left ABKCO to work for the Lennons full-time.
2.) If you only had 6 words to describe John, what would they be and why?
In no particular order:
Smart (he was constantly reading and learning, exploring and open to all ideas and beliefs)
Insecure (as odd as that sounds, particularly when it came to his voice and guitar playing)
Confident (he was aware of his talent but never took it for granted; always trying to break new ground and break artistic boundaries)
Warm (as evident in his music, he had a lot of compassion and love and always treated fans with genuine affection and respect)
Caustic (he had a lot of pain in his life, so his defense mechanism was his quick tongue, which at times could be biting -- he was quick to speak his mind, but learned that things he said to or about people were taken with much more gravity than if anyone else would give a casual remark)
Visionary (this is obvious; no one heard what he heard or saw what he saw, and, thankfully, he was able to put it into music).
3.) What were the things in his life that made him the most happy?
All the simple pleasures... family, friends, making music, t-shirts and jeans, television, eating, lying in the sun and swimming.
4.) Out of all the music he created, which song do you think John was the most proud of and why?
There were a few but I will choose one.
"Give Peace A Chance" because it was the anthem that helped end the Vietnam War.
5.) What do you think John's message would be to the young people of today who are discovering his life and his music for the first time?
John always would encourage young people and tell them to have hope for a positive future. He believed the future is what we'd make it -- and we'd have to see it bright for that to happen.
