I'm usually a fan of rainy days...don't know what it is about them, but for whatever reason I tend to get inspired more, except when I'm required to leave my house and go out to drown in the sea of the cold drops. Yeah today was one of those days. I woke up at 3 am this morning to get my homework done and was able to finish it like a rock star. But I ended up running a little late to school so my Dad drove me, which made me late anyway because of traffic. But the homework was still successfully delivered on time and all is well with the world. I even had a class canceled which meant I got out of school a whole hour and half earlier than expected.Later on my mom and I went out shopping and I got to get some stuff for my birthday. All in All despite the rain it turned out to be a pretty rad day...cept for the fact that I didn't get to see my O. oh well...thursday then.
Tonight or should I tomorrow....at 12:00 am the new Michael Jackson epic "This Is It" is coming out in theaters. Hmmmm I can't help but have mixed feelings about this whole debauchery. I know it's supposed to be....or is cleverly marketed... as a chance to celebrate what was and what could have been....the comeback of Michael Jackson. However, when you look at it from a realist point of view, I can't help but feel like the release of this so-called "film" isn't being presented for the interest of the viewer. It's no secret that Michael Jackson was heavily in debt, and it only got worse when he passed away. Sony/BMG as a whole are now in deep shit because they owe a shitload of money that was lost in revenue. So what's their brilliant plan to try to get themselves out of their rut? why, release the rehearsal footage, of course! and market it as a way for EVERYONE to see the amazing show Mr. Jackson would have put on had it not been for his untimely death. Sorry but that's how I see it. I feel like the intentions of the people behind this whole shebang are not at all pertained to the interest of the fans and even the world. It's just their genius plan to easily get back the money they lost from this whole mess. I know that sounds very pessimistic, but it's not like I can just ignore everything that's been going on in the media about this thing...I mean, I'm a journalism student...it's my homework to listen to stuff like this. And don't even get me started on Michael Jackson's father, whose intentions are to benefit absolutely nobody but his pocket. And I have no qualms about saying that.
Who I really feel sorry for is Michael. He worked so hard and put so much effort in putting on the best show possible and it was ultimately one of the factors that led to his demise. And that's the really sad thing. He'll never grace the stage again, nor will he be putting on electrifying performances that continue to raise the bar and will continue to inspire future generations. The world lost a legend. And I still don't think we know how much we lost in the music world. Maybe we never will.
Regardless of my feelings, I am going to go see This Is It. I'll trick myself into going in with an open mind, not thinking about the journey that led up to it's release, but with the pure entertainment factor. I've never seen Michael Jackson live....maybe this is a good thing to experience an alternate way to see the King of Pop perform one last time. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't the least bit excited.
